Pastor Norman Allen

Pastor Norman Allen

Norman Allen joins us as part of a unique partnership with Cedar Lane Unitarian Universalist Church where he’s enjoying his second year as an Intern Minister. Here at Davies, he’ll lead worship on first and third Sundays of the month, be active in community outreach and youth programs, hold weekly office hours, and lead monthly discussion groups.

Currently in his final year at Wesley Theological Seminary, Norman is a candidate for ordination with the Unitarian Universalist Association. A longtime professional writer, his essays have appeared on websites for OnBeing, OnFaith, and Tikkun, and in the pages of the Washington Post, Baltimore Sun, and Smithsonian, Washingtonian and Yes! magazines.

As a playwright, Norman has seen his work commissioned and produced locally by the Shakespeare Theatre Company, the Kennedy Center, the Olney Theatre Center, and Signature Theatre; and internationally in Prague, Ljubljana, Seoul, Tokyo, Cape Town, and Budapest. His plays In The Garden and Nijinsky’s Last Dance were honored with Helen Hayes Awards.

A former high school English teacher, Norman worked with the Center for Inspired Teaching as a teacher’s coach and founded the Signature in the Schools theatre education program.

Norman, his partner Gary, and their son Isaac share their DC home with two loving pups, who remind them daily of the power and comfort that comes with unconditional love. For more information and samples of his work, check out the links below and Norman’s website.
