September 19th 10:30 AM -- Empathy and Global Consciousness - Are human beings by nature aggressive, materialistic, and ego driven? Or are we at our depths wired to feel compassion and concern for each other? The former assertion has guided our view of life for ages, but today there is interesting and surprising work suggesting that perhaps it's not so simple. Some claim that "empathy," that is, a sense of connection with each other, is also implanted in us and that this may lead us through the challenges of today's global society. - Rev. Bruce Marshall

September 21st 7:00 PM -- Community Sing - For an hour or so once a month, we will come together to sing many types of music: folk songs, spirituals, camp songs, love songs, hymns, protest songs; the songs which mark the experiences of the group, as well as songs which help us gain insight into the lives of others. I want to share this wonderful experience with as many people as possible! - Denise Brenner

September 22nd 7:30 - 9 PM -- What Moves Us: Unitarian Universalist Theology adult education class. This month’s topic: the Social Justice Theology and Witness of James Luther Adams. As a Unitarian minister who had broken away from the fundamentalism of his family, Adams experienced a kind of conversion when he witnessed the rise of fascism first-hand in Nazi Germany. He came to believe that work for social justice must be part of a vital religious liberalism. In his later work as a professor at the University of Chicago and at Harvard University, Adams became a leading liberal theologian and social ethicist of the 20th century. In this session, as we consider the life and work of James Luther Adams, we will also consider our own relationship to social justice work. Open to all. POC Rev. Bruce Marshall

September 26th 10:30 AM -- Your Weaknesses are your Strengths; Your Strengths are Your Weaknesses - We spend a lot of time and energy attempting to address our weaknesses: overcome the things we don't do well. But it strikes me that often our weaknesses are really strengths. On the other hand, some things come easily to each of us: these are our strengths. But my observation is that what gets us into trouble quite often are those things we do really well. In this sermon, I would like to share some thoughts about this paradox. A Congregational Meeting follows the service.- Rev. Bruce Marshall

September 26th 1 PM - Concerned Citizens for Single Parents’ Rights. POC Ena Watson 301-440-3154
