MISSION STATEMENT

DMUUC is a multi-cultural and welcoming congregation of loving persons which perpetuates the vision of A. Powell Davies, and works to: encourage spiritual growth of adults and children; affirm individual dignity; explore truth and meaning in life; reach out to the community and work toward a just and sustainable world.

Most Unitarian Universalist (UU) members, outside of New England, were not born to this faith. For most of us it is a faith which developed during many years of individual seeking. We welcome you as a friend, to continue your search in fellowship with other seekers. Membership in this church is open to any person who wishes to pursue the UU practice of religion. To join, you sign our membership book and make a contribution of record. Please note that the book you sign upon visiting is the visitor book. If you have visited and are ready to sign the membership book, please speak with our minister or one of our leaders.

The ease with which a person may join a UU church speaks to our intellectual freedom and our universalism, but not to our commitment. To support what we affirm and believe as a liberal religion requires our skill, our labor, our care for one another, and our money. Our membership denotes a willingness to be identified with Unitarian Universalist principles and a commitment to them with both speech and action.

The Davies Memorial Unitarian Universalist Church (DMUUC) organization is democratically run. The members of the Board of Trustees are elected at our annual congregational meeting. They meet monthly and the meetings are open.

The Board of Trustees are liaisons to the standing committees, which include: Religious Education, Operations, Worship, Music, Adult Programs, Growth and Public Relations, Finance, Membership, and Endowment. If you’d like to join a committee, please speak to a leader – membership is not required to serve.

We, the members of Davies Memorial Unitarian Universalist Church, covenant with each other to create a strong and vital religious community:

We promise to honor the varieties of spiritual seeking among us, affirming the free church tradition that recognizes there are many ways to what is right and true.

We will live by the Unitarian Universalist seven principles, which begin by affirming human worth and dignity.

We affirm the DMUUC vision of a multiracial, multicultural, and multigenerational congregation in which we treat each other with care and respect as we also express these values in the larger community.

We promise to listen, offering opportunities to share our stories, truths, and concerns.

We will support each other as we face both the sorrows and the joys we encounter in our life journeys.

We pledge to participate in the activities of this church, offering our presence, our talents, our passions, and our resources.

To the end of forming a congregation of love and hope, we covenant with each other.  //

If you’re a friend or member who would like to help us share our programs with your friends on your social networks or just join us in Facebook, Twitter, and email lists, please check our networks here.

DMUUC is financially self-supporting and entirely dependent upon the contributions made by its members and friends and through our fundraising events.
