An Interfaith Dialogue: Beyond Tolerance and Toward Mutual Respect

Davies Memorial Unitarian Universalist Church is partnering with The Interfaith Council of Suburban Maryland to present an interfaith dialogue on the topic of “Beyond Mere Tolerance and Toward Mutual Respect,” at 1:30pm on Sunday, February 24 in the Davies sanctuary at 7400 Temple Hill Road, Camp Springs MD. Admission is free. Ample parking is available.

A panel of Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and Unitarian Universalist clergy will offer brief presentations followed by a period of questions, answers, and open conversation. Participants include:

Pastor Norman Allen serves as minister to Davies Memorial Unitarian Universalist Church. He received his M.Div. from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC, and his M.A. from St. John’s College in Annapolis. In addition to his work as a minister, he is an award-winning playwright and essayist.

Rev. Dr. Veronice Miles is Associate Professor of Preaching at Wesley Theological Seminary and former professor at Wake Forest University School of Divinity. Ordained Baptist, she has participated in various facets of church and community ministry for more than 40 years.

Khalil Shadeed is founder and former president of the Islamic Society of Prince George’s County, the president of Read1 Communications, and producer of the television program “The Scholar’s Chair,” which seeks to inform the world of the Islamic philosophy of Al-Tawhid; the oneness of God; the unity of all knowledge.

Rabbi Josh Jacobs-Velde holds an MA in Peace Studies from the University of Notre Dame in addition to his rabbinical studies at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. He and his wife Daria served as co-rabbis at Congregation Ohev Tzedek in Ohio and now serve Oseh Shalom in Laurel, MD.
