Muslim Strategies for Social Justice

February 24 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

Guest speaker Dawud Abdur-Rahman joins us as part of our year-long focus on the five largest world religions. With his guidance, we’ll explore the strategies and tactics Muslims have undertaken to advocate for social justice, focusing on the Muslim response to the American Civil Rights struggle and Apartheid South Africa. Approaches sanctioned in the Qur’an and authentic traditions of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) will be highlighted.

The author of The Dhikr of Authenticity, Dawud holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Temple University and a Masters from Averett College. His graduate school research project explored “Spirituality in the Workplace.” Dawud served as Imam for the Islamic Society of Prince George’s County from its founding in 2002 until 2008. He appears regularly on TV’s The Scholar’s Chair and participates frequently in Interfaith discussions and activities.
